If you want to participate in the Debt Liberation Lab, you must:
- Pay the agreed-upon monthly dues to the Grand Lodge, who puts in a bank account nicknamed The Bucket O’ Love
- If you are debtor, you get at least this back; all monthly income is split equally between debtors’ loans
- Pay your own monthly minimum on your undergraduate student loan
- We love you and are here to help you, and we exist to accelerate loan payoff, not take-over loan payoff
- Reveal the size of the debt you are bringing into the Lodge
- Reveal personal information such as contact information, debt servicing information, and government ID related data
- Update personal information as it changes
- If you leave the lab, you must destroy all Debt Lib Lab information that does not belong solely to yourself
- Pay appropriate taxes
- Any money the Debt Lib Lab pays to your loan is taxable income
- Individual participants are responsibility for paying all applicable taxes on that income
- Debt Lib Lab wants to make paying taxes easy. To do that, debtors will need to share their social security number
- It is not necessary to hold a debt to be a participant in the Debt Lib Lab
In return, the collective will:
- Pay an equal portion of collected funds against your chosen undergraduate student loan on a monthly basis
- Provide a variety of resources to help understand and manage student debt
- Facilitate a community and network of individuals working together for student debt relief
- Contribute to the alleviation of student debt, including yours!
Meeting expectations:
- Come to meetings
- Really. It's brief, it's fun. It's with people who have love for you
- If you can’t come to meetings, tell someone in advance.
- We appreciate explanations, we are not interested in excuses. If you need to be somewhere else, we understand. We ask that you remain actively involved with the work, and give us an update on what work you are doing that week/month to fulfill your pledge.
